Annual Green Up Day in Springfield May 5

SPRINGFIELD, VT -Plans are underway for the annual Green-Up day in Springfield being held Saturday, May 5, 2012. This is the time when all of Springfield turns out to CLEAN-UP and GREEN-UP Springfield’s streets, neighborhoods, school grounds area parks and the Toonerville Trail.
The GREEN-UP work begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 5. For those wishing to start at the downtown location to get an assignment or work in the downtown, please come to the Peoples United Bank parking lot. Bring rakes, gloves, shovels, brooms and anything that might be helpful for clean-up the downtown area. The Green-Up Vermont has supplied green trash bags, which will be available.
Neighborhoods or groups planning on greening up in a particular area are asked to call the Chamber with your location so we will not duplicate. Once you have filled your bags you may either take them to recycling where they will accept them, at no charge, or call the Springfield Public Works garage, 802-886-2208 to let them know where the bags are located so they can be picked up. The Public Works Department will be picking up trash at locations where illegal dumping has taken place, so if you know of an area where trash has been dumped please call them to report it.
As a means of thanking participants for their efforts in Green Up day, join fellow workers at the Peoples United Bank parking lot at 11:30 a.m. for a THANK YOU cook-out with hot dogs and drink, courtesy of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
Thank you to all for helping to keep Springfield and Vermont green and beautiful!! Questions can be directed to the Chamber office 802-885-2779 or email: chamber@springfieldvt.com.
